The retreats attract an illustrious group of senior mediators and other peace process actors who seek to resolve armed conflict through dialogue. Every year, participants are joined by distinguished guests and speakers to engage in honest, issue-focused discussions that go beyond institutional constraints and conventional wisdom.
All discussions are confidential and take place under the Chatham house rule. Participation is by invitation-only.
By bringing together key actors from the United Nations, regional organisations and governments, as well as private organisations and noteworthy individuals, conflict party representatives, war correspondents, outstanding analysts, thinkers and experts, the retreats also provide a unique networking opportunity across the entire peace spectrum.
Participants have included Kofi Annan; President Martti Ahtisaari; President Mohammad Khatami; Javier Solana; Dr Salim Ahmed Salim; Ambassador Thomas Pickering; Gerry Adams; Dr Surin Pitsuwan and many others.
